Epicurious, a pretty reliable website for recipes, has recently posted a tool for eating locally, From Farm to Table. Their map allows you to select a state and month and find seasonal ingredients that are available. While the offerings are pretty general, it’s certainly a start! It’s a great way to encourage people to cook with what’s available. After all, isn’t that the way to begin eating locally? You have to shift from “What do I want for dinner?” to “What do I have for dinner and what delicious thing can I create with it?” The latter takes a little more work. It’s hard to break out of what you already know and explore the wide world of oh, let’s just say, kale. But once you do, you might just find that you can’t wait for kale season to come back around again.
